And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” (Exodus 33:14 ESV) When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. (John 16:13 ESV)
Seeing these side by side is a real treat. God promising to be with the people of Israel as they travel is one way his presence is with them (through the pillar of cloud and fire). The final fulfillment of that promise is found in the Holy Spirit. We have the Spirit, Christ's spirit, with us continually. This is a great encouragement and hope in this wonderful truth/reality.
"...Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips. (Job 2:10 ESV)
A very challenging statement. When hardship or struggle is upon us we have to remember that it is from God and suits his purpose for our lives in his perfect plan.
