I really like the parallel that we see from Genesis 16 and Psalm 19. In Genesis 16, we see a woman who doubts the powers of God to fulfill one of His promises do to her own mortal failings. Later though, we see that God does what He says he will in a big way that brings Sarah much joy in her life. In Psalm 19, David lingers on the benefits and attributes of God's laws and commandments. If we look specifically at verses 7-9, David describes the laws and commandments of God as perfect, refreshing, trustworthy, lasting, and pure. If we look further down, we see in verse 11 that by keeping his commandments, we will be blessed, which is the case with Abraham and Sarah. God made a promise to Abraham due to the righteousness in his life and blessed them beyond belief. And God blesses us further with the Blood of His Son, allowing us communion with Him in a way that had never before been experienced. I look forward to striving to fulfill my calling to keep His commandments this week with the knowledge that they are righteous and pure and meant to better me. Peace.
While reading through the Chapter in Joshua it shocks me to see how violent these tribes were back in the day. That the God of mercy that we serve would do things like this is hard for me to imagine. Maybe i try to sugar coat it to much. God is the same now as he was then. It just goes to show how awesome Jesus is i feel. While the old testament is filled with wonderful stories most of them have to do with violence and killing then the new testament is more grace and miracles preformed by Jesus and things. Not to saw that the new testament makes it sound easy, it is just not as filled with war. I was just thinking about this as i was reading today.
